Basically, the lyric prank, or sometimes known as the lyric challenge, is a challenge developed by a man called Mike Fox. The fundamental ‘rules'of the process are that you text someone (usually a partner or a relative, depending on which the song is) song lyric.
You're not allowed to make use of anything but the lyrics of the song. Say for instance you used ‘Sorry'by good ol'Justin Bieber, your conversation would go something such as this (let's just use your clueless mom) :

You: You realize I try but I don't do to well with apologies

You: I hope I don't go out of time, will someone call a referee ?

A lyric prank is once you text your friend, family or significant others lyrics to a song. But everything you do is you text them in single sentences and be cryptic, like: “I'm so into you, I could barely breathe” wait for their response. Then type another verse, “And all I wanna do is to fall in deep” - watch for a response.
Their response will often be confusion. That example is Ariana Grande “Into You” - just take the lyric and send your “victim” the text.
A lyric prank is some texting sent using words from a certain song to a particular person. The prank is mainly to troll the prospective or to get them super confused.

A lyric prank is when you're texting someone the lyrics of a tune and they do not it. Example:
