Basically, the lyric prank, or sometimes known as the lyric challenge, is a challenge produced by a man called Mike Fox. The basic ‘rules'of the challenge are that you text someone (usually a companion or a relative, depending on what the song is) song lyric.
You're not allowed to use anything but the lyrics of that song. Say for instance you used ‘Sorry'by good ol'Justin Bieber, your conversation would go something similar to this (let's just use your clueless mom) :

A lyric prank is once you text your friend, family or significant others lyrics to a song. But what you do is you text them in single sentences and be cryptic, like: “I'm so into you, I could barely breathe” wait for their response.
